Who was BALSA?
We were a community of parents who came together monthly to focus on the particular needs of advanced learners, looking for ways, both as individual families and within the BUSD, to improve the educational and social experience for our children and those with similar needs.
BALSA meetings featured speakers on topics relevant to our mission, and provided a supportive and welcoming community for all families dealing with the unique challenges facing the advanced learner.

What is an Advanced Learner?
Advanced Learners include those who are gifted, talented, high-potential, Twice Exceptional*, or high-achieving regardless of whether such students have been formally GATE-identified.
*The term Twice Exceptional, often abbreviated as 2e, refers to gifted learners who also have disabilities.
